Approximately 45% of TETFUND-sponsored scholars abroad have been omitted from the presidential-approved bailout disbursement.
According to Kamal Odunjo-Saka, the Chairman of the students, this has left them facing harsh economic conditions and turbulence.
He said despite efforts to appeal to TETFUND for fair disbursement, scholars were informed that some were ineligible due to programme status.
Requests for engagement with the Fund were rebuffed as Odunjo-Saka expressed that scholars on the TETFUND programme were unjustly omitted without justification.
He expressed that initially, there was no segregation or discrepancy during the bailout agreement as both ongoing and completed scholars received payments during the first and second tranches (Jan-Mar 2024).
However, TETFUND refused to pay fellow scholars in the same category without concrete justification.
Odunjo-Saka revealed that TETFUND also omitted foreign-sponsored scholars on Benchwork and Post-Doctoral programmes, who are facing economic hardship and depression abroad.
Meanwhile, the scholars urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene promptly in the bailout disbursement to all categories of scholars (Masters, PhD, Benchwork, and Post-Doctoral research) from 2017 to 2023.”
