In the recently held 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), 577 visually impaired candidates participated in eleven centers across the country.
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced this during their policy meeting.
To support these candidates, JAMB has introduced audiobooks for those seeking admission through UTME or Direct Entry (DE).
According to the ‘Registrar’s Report on 2023 Admission and 2024 UTME’, released at the Hairat Ade Balogun Auditorium in Abuja, this innovation aims to provide equal access to higher education.
The idea was conceived during the first national conference on equal opportunity in higher education, held from September 25 to 26, 2023.
The audiobooks are digital versions of traditional reading materials, available in various audio formats (WMV, MP3, WMA, AAC, etc.).
They are compatible with any device that can stream audio files, making it easier for visually impaired candidates to understand the subject matter.”
