Special needs candidates are to enjoy free University Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
This was disclosed by the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who expressed that it had concluded plans to issue free application documents to desiring candidates with disabilities who possess five O’Level credits.
The decision was part of the resolutions reached at the First Annual Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria, spearheaded by JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG)
Speaking, the Registrar stated that it had put necessary mechanisms in place for a hitch-free selection process that would ascertain the eligibility or otherwise of potential beneficiaries.
He stated that the gesture was part of measures put in place by the Board to expand access to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) thereby removing any form of inhibition that could impede their career advancement.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly has lauded the Board for the planned issuance of the free application forms to candidates with disabilities who are desirous of sitting for 2024 UTME.
The Chairman House Committee on Disability Matters, Honourable Bashir Dawodu, gave the commendation while chatting with JambBullettin recently.
While recognizing the good gesture, he said it would enhance access to higher education and remove financial impediments for candidates with disabilities.
