Nigeria’s social media landscape is abuzz with debates and diverse opinions following the release of Eedris-Abdulkareem’s latest song, ‘Emilokan.’
The veteran Afrobeats singer aims at prominent figures in Nigeria, criticizing their stance on the country’s state.
The song’s verse that has sparked controversy castigates Pastor Enoch Adeboye for not speaking out against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.
Social media commentators are divided, with some expressing disappointment and warning the singer to be cautious.
Timotth Olarewaju writes, “Daddy Adeboye can’t act without the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Idris Abdulkareem, be careful how you criticize that Great Man of God.”
However, others praise Eedris-Abdulkareem’s bravery for speaking truth to power, as Ozumba-Ariguzo Chizobam says, “I don’t see anything wrong with what he said. Adeboye should speak up when things go awry.”
In the song, Eedris-Abdulkareem laments the economic hardship faced by Nigerians during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, which has worsened under the current regime.
He urges Adeboye to stage a one-million-man protest against President Tinubu’s government, just as he did during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure.”
