The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) held its policy meeting in Abuja on Thursday, setting the official cut-off marks for the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The cut-off marks are as follows are Universities-140, Polytechnics- 100, and Colleges of education -80.
Initially, the minimum admission age was set at 18 years old, but the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has succumbed to pressure and directed that 16-year-old candidates can be admitted into Nigerian higher institutions.
The cut-off marks aim to ensure academic readiness for university education, practical and technical training in polytechnics, and a standard level for teacher training institutions.
Institutions can set additional admission standards, but their cut-off marks must not exceed JAMB’s benchmarks.
The age limit was revised from 18 to 16 years old following objections and pleas from heads of tertiary institutions at the JAMB policy meeting.
