The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed deep concern regarding the increasing prevalence of fraudulent claims of academic excellence made by some candidates. The Board urges the public, including well-intentioned individuals and organizations, to verify claims of outstanding performance by candidates before granting scholarships.
During a recent virtual meeting with State Commissioners of Education nationwide, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, emphasized the importance of seeking clarifications from the Board to prevent the occurrence of fraudulent claims.
This plea comes in light of recent incidents, including that of Ms Mmesoma and a similar case in Osun, where a UTME candidate received undeserved rewards based on falsely inflated claims of excellence in the 2023 UTME.
Highlighting the contrast between the two cases, the Registrar stressed the importance of State Governments reaching out to the Board for accurate information, as exemplified by the Anambra State Government in Mmesoma’s case.
Commending the State Commissioners for their continuous support in the successful conduct of the 2023 UTME, particularly in disseminating timely information to candidates, Prof. Oloyede solicited the same cooperation for the upcoming 2024 examination. What’s your impression of this story?
