The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has announced a significant increase in enrollment for its 2024 examinations, with 67,751 candidates currently sitting for the exam, marking a notable rise compared to the previous year.
NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, attributed the increase to a growing recognition of the importance of skills and technical education.
While the number is still lower than general secondary school enrollment due to the specialized nature of the exam, Isiugo-Abanihe emphasized the value of the certificate in providing students with opportunities for advancement.
Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, while monitoring the exam in Abuja with Isiugo-Abanihe, reiterated the government’s commitment to investing in technical education to address issues of quality and unemployment.
According to Professor Mamman, the ministry plans to introduce skills training in all schools, from primary to secondary level, with implementation set for September.
