The National Examinations Council (NECO) has implemented various security measures to prevent malpractices in the ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
According to NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, the Council has a zero-tolerance policy for examination malpractices.
While monitoring the examination in Enugu State, Wushishi revealed that NECO has deployed biometric machines to prevent impersonation.
The Council also uses a photo album with barcodes that contain candidate information, accessible by scanning with an Android phone.
Additionally, NECO has employed undercover security operatives and collaborated with the Department of State Services (DSS) to prevent examination question leakage.
The Council’s intelligence section works closely with the DSS to ensure the security of the examination process.
Notably, NECO has attracted over 2,000 foreign students to take its current examination, comprising Nigerian citizens and foreign nationals impressed by the curriculum.
This year, the Council has recorded 1,376,391 candidates, with 706,490 male and 669,901 female candidates, exceeding the 1,205,888 candidates in the previous year.
