
Plans are in pipeline to ensure the University of Calabar has the best of Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) ever as it prepares to play host to the most glamorous games among the students of the nation’s Ivory tower in 2026.
According to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Mrs. Florence Obi, the institution has commenced seeking collaboration with Mr. George Etibe, a versatile sports consultant, and a potential marketer.

Professor Obi disclosed this as she received the delegation of stakeholders led by the Director of Sports of the institution, Dr. Blessing Anam, who stated that the courtesy visit was intended to intimate the Vice-Chancellor on the state of preparedness of the sporting facilities towards having a successful NUGA in 2026, as well as start preliminary planning.
Professor Obi lauded the expertise of the sports consultant, saying his wealth of experience and knowledge will be of significance as the planning committee for the hosting of NUGA preliminaries is about to be constituted.
Speaking further she disclosed that she will constitute a committee that must work in collaboration with the sports consultant in a bid to attract sponsors since the institution is plagued with limited resources to fund the hosting.
She urged the consultant to work with the potential marketers as well as use his experience to facilitate great experience during the game.
While making his remarks, the Sports Consultant, Mr. Etibe expressed that as a facility manager, sports have gone beyond recreation to business, saying it attracts funds to the institution.
Urging the University to commence work early and seek potential sponsors, as well as development partners, he pledged to assist in whatever capacity possible to host a successful game.
Etibe added that the institution would need a state-of-the-art swimming pool that will be converted to commercial use to help alleviate the burden of hosting.
