The septuagenarian Nollywood actor has decried the unfair treatment meted out to the Nigerian youths during politics, saying their sensitivity is brutalized and aspirations asphyxiated.
The veteran actor in a chat with Chude Jideonwo expressed his dissatisfaction with the mouth-watering sum of money the youths had to pay to purchase a declaration of intent form during electioneering.
Complaining about the whooping sum, Edochie asked, “How many youngsters are going to come out and do that just so they can take part in politics.”
Also, the actor expressed his faith in the June 12, 1993 polls, saying “That election was the freest and the best election we have had in this country. I am 76, so if I’m not saying it with fear of contradiction, I am saying it with plenty of authority and with plenty of conviction. You didn’t see people snatching ballot boxes, creating problems shooting around, and I lost hope. Ever since we have never had a free and fair election.”
He said Nigerian politicians prefer to ignore the lessons history provides and keep repeating mistakes adding, “each time we have an election, there is always chaos, consequent upon it.”
