The Federal Government, led by President Tinubu, has initiated a project called DOTS to equip youths with relevant skills. The Honourable Minister of State for Education, Professor Tanko Sununu, announced this during the groundbreaking ceremony for the National Examinations Council (NECO) State offices in Lafia.
DOTS, an acronym for Data Repository, Out-of-school Children, Teachers’ Welfare, and Skills, aims to address key areas in education.
The skills component focuses on practical skills, knowledge, and moral standards relevant to today’s needs.
The Minister emphasized the importance of skills acquisition, citing the impact of Nigerian doctors on the American healthcare system.
The government plans to start by creating a reliable data bank to inform education planning, resource distribution, and progress monitoring.
The Federal Government aims to return over 20 million out-of-school children to school, preventing potential exploitation and criminality.
Through DOTS, the government will also prioritize capacity building, restoring dignity to the teaching profession, and certifying teachers with the necessary qualifications to restore the profession’s former glory.
