Up-and-coming Afrobeats star, Balogun Afolabi Oluwaloseyi, aka Seyi Vibes, has shared a cautionary tale of how he was swindled by a con artist while trying to sign with Wizkid’s record label.
In a chat with Wazobia FM, Lagos, the songwriter revealed how he had hoped to join Wizkid’s label but applied through a fraudulent channel, which ultimately led to him being defrauded.
Seyi Vibes explained that he had searched online for information on joining Wizkid’s Starboy Entertainment label and came across a mobile number on Google, which he believed belonged to a recruitment officer.
The individual on the other end of the number instructed him to pay N10,000 for a registration form, claiming it was a requirement for the label’s screening process.
Unfortunately, Seyi Vibes trusted the faceless individual and paid the fee, only to be blocked and realize he had been duped.
“That’s how I sold my phone and paid the guy N10,000, but after he blocked me,” Seyi Vibes recounted, warning upcoming artists to be cautious and not sign up for record labels online.
Seyi Vibes gained recognition with his single “Chance (Na Ham)” from his second studio album “Billion Dollar Boy,” which debuted at number 19 on the UK Afrobeats single chart and reached number 7 on the Turn Table Top 100 chart.”
