The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has announced that a stakeholders’ meeting to prepare the updated secondary school curriculum will take place on August 6, 2024.
This announcement was made during a recent policy meeting held by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
According to the Minister, the updated curriculum will be implemented nationwide in all schools, both public and private, starting from September 2024.
The move to update the curriculum was prompted by concerns about the poor state of secondary school education in the country, as noted by the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission.
The challenges facing Nigerian secondary schools include infrastructural deficits, outdated curricula, unqualified teachers, and inadequate library and laboratory facilities.
The introduction of the new curriculum aims to address these challenges and improve secondary school education in the country.
The effort to revamp the curriculum has been in progress since 2023, and the stakeholders’ meeting in August will be a crucial step in finalizing the updated curriculum.
