The world champion, Tobi Amusan, cruised through her 100m hurdles heat, finishing in 12.49 seconds.
She easily advanced to the semifinals, leaving her competitors behind.
Amusan, the World Record Holder, showed little strain as she claimed victory over USA’s Alaysha Johnson, who finished second in 12.61 seconds, and Jamaica’s Janeek Brown, who came in third at 12.84 seconds.
She will face off against other semifinalists from various heats.
