A devastating incident occurred at Saint Academy Secondary School in Busa Buji, Jos North Local Government, Plateau State, when a two-story building collapsed during examinations, trapping numerous students and teachers.
The building, which showed signs of distress with cracking sounds, suddenly caved in around 11 am, leaving many feared dead.
Rescue efforts were delayed due to the lack of immediate access to heavy machinery.
The Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) eventually arrived with an excavator, but the delay may have contributed to the loss of lives.
Security personnel, including soldiers and police, are working tirelessly to rescue those trapped.
The scene is filled with distraught mothers wailing and grieving. The injured students and deceased victims have been taken to ECWA Specialist Hospitals Jankwanu, where parents are gathered, to overcome with sorrow.
The school, known for producing many graduates over the years, has been hit by this tragic event.
The full extent of the damage and loss of life is still unknown, but the community is in shock and mourning.
