The Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership, Professor Oluyemisi A. Bamgbose, has said that University of Ibadan (UI) had set to institute a structure to collaborate with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to grow Nigeria’s economy.
Professor Bamigbose made this statement at the opening of 2-day SMEs Fair to kick-start the activities for the celebration of UI@75 and the 2024 Convocation and Foundation Day Ceremony.
Pro Bamgbose added that the move was in a deliberate attempt to achieve their roles as drivers of economic growth in Nigeria.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale expressed that as the University clocks 75, it was time to turn its researches into innovations and its innovations to Development.
He stated that research would be of no value if not used; hence the institution adopted at its theme, “Building a Global Community Beyond Borders.”
Professor Adebowale noted that the University was in an era of using cutting-edge research to drive development in all areas of human existence.
He said the SMEs Fair was a strategic market place where gown would meet the town/industry, idea could be cross-fertilized, investors could meet prospective end users with the possibilities of product refinement collaboration and development of understanding.
The VC added that UI was ready to transcend borders and break frontiers while adding value to the society in a bid to stimulate the SMEs.
