Nigerian students who were barred from attending classes due to their inability to pay their fees have been advised to return home and explore the opportunities offered by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Heartbroken by the development, many individuals who saw this as mistreatment by Teesside University reacted, advising the expelled students to leave the UK and leverage the opportunity provided by NELFUND.
Adewale Damilare described the situation as sad, advising, “Let them come home; we now have a student loan available.”
Similarly, Eureka @Archimeokey appealed to the dismissed students to return home and embrace the opportunity offered by NELFUND.
Alfred Awuke blamed the situation on a lack of foresight by Nigerian leaders who failed to establish a workable and far-reaching educational system for their citizens.
The demoralizing situation left a student who wished to remain anonymous depressed and contemplating suicide, having gone without food and drink for days.
Adenike Adeniran, who was nearing the completion of her program after two years, was kicked out of the University and reported to the Home Office after missing one payment.
She complained to the University that she had already made 90% of the payment and attended all her classes, but her pleas fell on deaf ears.
Nigerian students at Teesside University in the United Kingdom were told to leave the school and return to Nigeria due to unpaid fees.
These students were not allowed to access their studies and were instead reported to the Home Office following the plummeting value of the Naira, which hurt their savings.
Speaking on BBC, the Spokesperson of Teesside University stated that the failure of the students to pay their fees was a breach of visa sponsorship requirements, saying the University had no option but to contact the Home Office, which responded that visa decisions rested with the institution.
The incident prompted a group of 60 students to seek support from the institution after the defaulting students were removed from the University account.
The affected students eventually withdrew from the institution voluntarily after being removed from the University account.”
