
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that 52 students were involved in exam malpractices during the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for admission into the JSS1 of federal unity colleges.
This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, while presenting the results at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
Dr. Sununu expressed concern over the alarming and unprecedented number of exam malpractices, with 50 cases from Rivers State and two from Lagos State.
He also announced that one candidate scored the highest mark of 203 out of 210, while 13 candidates obtained the lowest score of 1.
Out of 71,291 candidates that registered, 66,931 sat for the exam, while 4,360 were absent.
In the Federal Government Academy examination (FGA), 2,336 candidates sat for the exam out of 2,649 that registered, with 313 absent. The highest score recorded was 180, and the lowest was five.
The admission requirements are 60% merit, 30% equality of state, and 10% exigency. Dr. Sununu urged the Senior Secondary Education Department to conclude the admission process promptly and ensure the criteria are followed.
