The Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi, has called on lecturers to groom students who will embark on research both within and outside the country. Professor Obi made this call while declaring open the Institute of Oceanography, University of Calabar’s celebration of World Ocean Day held at the Institute’s Conference Room recently.
Professor Obi said research exposes students to new knowledge that will make them become professional and experts in their fields of study.
She added that the University is more interested in producing quality graduates that can always stand out and defend their certificates and qualifications.
She charged the students to be more serious and open their minds and hearts to learning, expressing optimism that lecturers will always give their best.
Speaking further, she expressed that ocean are important to mankind, urging both the staff and students of the Faculty/Institute of Oceanography to strive hard, despite the minimal resources in the face of global economic meltdown, to make the institution great again like before.
