Visually impaired freshers at the University of Lagos, Nigeria received a warm orientation programme organized by the National Association of Nigerian Visually Impaired Students (NANVIS), the University of Lagos Chapter. Approximately 30 students were introduced to various programs and support systems tailored to their needs within the university.
The orientation aimed to inform and familiarize the new students with the association’s operational framework and activities, emphasizing inclusivity and debunking misconceptions about the capabilities of visually impaired individuals.
The event featured distinguished speakers, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Folasade Oguntola, represented by the University Librarian, Prof Yetunde Zaid, who shared insights on achieving academic excellence through effective use of library resources.
The Library Staff Technician overseeing the Visually Impaired Resource Center (VIRC), Ejike Simon Obodoma, provided practical advice on utilizing association-sponsored capacity-building initiatives for academic and social success.
The presence of visually impaired alumnus Olalekan Ibrahim, a top graduating student, served as further inspiration.
