The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of 215, 267 candidates in the recently released May/June 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
This represents 11.92% of the total number of candidates who took the examination.
According to the WAEC’s Head of Nigeria Office, Amos Dangut, the results of 1,685,889 candidates, accounting for 93.9%, were released on Monday, August 12, 2024.
Dangut attributed the withheld results to examination malpractices by candidates.
In his analysis of the results, Dangut revealed that 1,301,949 candidates obtained credits in five subjects, including English and Mathematics, accounting for 72.9% of the total candidates.
This represents a 7.6% decrease in examination performance compared to the 2023 WASSCE results.
Furthermore, 1,332,089 candidates obtained credits in five subjects, including either Mathematics or English.
Despite insecurity challenges during the exam in various parts of the country, 1,805,216 candidates registered for the WASSCE.
