Facing economic hardship, Yobe State University has appealed to the state government for financial assistance.
The Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, Barrister Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, made the request during a courtesy visit to Governor Mai Mala Buni’s office.
Goniri explained that the allocated funds have become unrealistic due to the high inflation rate, and advocated increased funding to meet the university’s needs to achieve academic excellence.
Earlier, Governor Buni, through his Media Aide, had advised the Governing Council to approach the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for financial assistance, pointing out that other tertiary institutions benefit from such agencies.
He encouraged the council to explore additional funding sources for the university.
However, the Governor assured the university that his government would provide additional funding from the state and local governments to address the current economic challenges.
He emphasized the university’s crucial role in producing the manpower needed for good governance and quality services, stating, “The future of our state and our people relies on the university to produce the necessary manpower for good governance and quality services.
