University of Lagos is a leading institution dedicated to quality teaching, learning, research, and community service. The institution has over the past few years developed leaders in many disciplines through its various programmes. The University of Lagos prides itself in placing a great premium on the development and welfare of its staff and students both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Since its establishment in 1962, the institution has continued to play a key role in nation-building by molding the teeming youth population.
The picture on left is the Senate Building of the University of Lagos with a good road leading to it in a serene environment. This is the heart of the institution where every decision in the running of the institution is carried out. It is a beautiful high-rise structure that attracts attention as you enter the university community. Without any doubt, this building is a source of pride for every student of the University of Lagos.
The image on the right is a picture that is attracting great concern. That is the coastline at the back of the University when viewing from Third Mainland Bridge. In a country that is ravaged by insecurity, one expects the school authority to beef up security in this area for the safety of the students and the entire university community.
Surprisingly, the white building in the middle of the lagoon has been there for many years but nobody can say specifically why the building is there. Some people say it is a police post, but no police officer has ever been seen there. The essence of the building is not known to many people. Funny enough, the building recently wears a new look while not serving any purpose. The coastline is very dirty and dangerous animals like a crocodile can enter the university environment through this space, so it needs urgent attention. This route can be used as a free entrance for thieves, kidnappers, and others miscreants who may want to perpetrate heinous acts in the University.
Black Campus believes that the University of Lagos authority should do the needful by putting the building into proper use. Also, the university authority should beef up security around the university coastline, especially, from the lagoon front to protect the lives of members of staff and the entire students’ community.
Urgent security measure is needed here!
