The Federal Government has announced that between 250,000 to 300,000 students in Nigerian tertiary institutions will benefit from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) in 2024.
NELFUND Managing Director, Mr. Akintunde Sawyer, disclosed this in an interview with Channels Television on Monday.
According to Sawyer, the fund expects to receive 250,000 to 300,000 applications from the academic sector, but fewer applications from the vocational sector, as the process is just beginning.
The N60 billion fund loan scheme can support up to 2 million Nigerian students in higher institutions.
Sawyer emphasized that the opportunity is open to students already enrolled in higher institutions in the country.
“This is not only for new students; if you apply for a loan today, you will receive it for the next session,” he explained.
“We have sufficient funds to cover a large number of students over time,” he added.
NELFUND opened its portal for applications on May 24, with N35 billion approved for disbursement to 70,000 successful applicants.
