Xavi has reiterated his decision to retract his resignation from Barcelona, citing his deep allegiance to the club and the overwhelming support he received from various stakeholders.
“I am a devoted Barcelona fan, always striving to act in the club’s best interests because I am deeply rooted in its ethos,” Xavi stated.
“Yesterday, I felt a strong vote of confidence from the board, the sporting department, and the club as a whole.
Additionally, the unwavering support from the players has been crucial, showing me that our project cannot end prematurely.
The fans, too, have been instrumental in persuading me to continue our fight.”
He further elaborated on his thought process: “In January, I believed that stepping down was the right move, but now I realize that staying is the best decision.”
During the subsequent Q&A session with the media, Xavi expressed humility: “Recognizing and correcting mistakes is a sign of wisdom. I’m here to rectify.”
He admitted that his earlier decision was “misguided,” explaining, “In January, I thought a change was necessary for the team and the club, but I now understand that my decision was self-serving.”
Xavi, accompanied by his assistants Óscar Hernández and Sergio Alegre, affirmed that the coaching staff would remain unchanged: “The staff is exceptional, and I’m grateful for their patience and understanding. There will be no alterations to the staff.”‘
Acknowledging that he was not in a position of power, Xavi accepted the club’s conditions for his continued tenure, without any demands for player reinforcements. “I value consensus and teamwork.
I have a great rapport with Deco and the president. We are a tight-knit family within the club, and we will work together to strengthen our team to the best of our abilities.”
The press conference concluded with Xavi’s implicit apology: “I assured the president that such a situation will not arise again.”
