Six England supporters have received football banning orders following disturbances before the Euro 2024 match against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on June 16.
The UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) has been collaborating with German authorities during the tournament. Those given banning orders are prohibited from attending both domestic and England international matches for the duration of their ban.
Mick Johnson, head of the UKFPU, praised the “swift action” taken, emphasizing that there are “consequences” for those causing disorder either in the UK or abroad.
“We are maintaining close cooperation with our German police counterparts, with a team of UK officers deployed overseas to help ensure a safe tournament,” Johnson stated. “We encourage traveling fans to enjoy themselves but to drink responsibly, respect local culture, and avoid engaging in disorderly behaviour.”
Among those banned, Todd Hines, 21, Liam Jackson, 28, and Kyran Alcock, 28, received three-year bans, while Lewis Dodsworth, 29, Jack Hatton, 27, and Gary McIvor, 38, were given five-year bans.
Additionally, four other fans have appeared in UK courts and were bailed under the condition that they surrender their passports. The UKFPU continues to investigate other individuals suspected of involvement in the disturbances before England’s 1-1 draw with Serbia.
Johnson noted, “It is important to highlight that majority of England fans in Germany are conducting themselves very well, and those involved in any disorder represent a minority. This has been true for all of England’s fixtures so far.”
