Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has spoken out in defense of the club’s decision to sell Cole Palmer to Chelsea last summer. The midfielder has enjoyed a successful season with Chelsea since his move.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup semifinal against Chelsea, Guardiola praised Palmer, saying, “He’s an exceptional player, and we knew that when he was here. He’s a nice, shy guy with a lot of confidence, and he’s been playing fantastically well.”
Guardiola also revealed that Palmer had expressed a desire to leave Manchester City for two seasons. “I told him to stay, but he insisted on leaving. What can I say?” Guardiola said.
Reflecting on facing Chelsea after Manchester City’s Champions League exit earlier in the week, Guardiola emphasized the need to stay focused. “We don’t have an option; we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We don’t have time to reflect; we’ll do that in the summertime. You compete to win, but sometimes you lose games, and that’s what happened,” he said.
