There are indications that the second-hand cloth business is booming in and around Lagos State University (LASU) as students, especially those from LASU prefer these clothes to the new ones. According to Mrs Kehinde Oluokun, students prefer buying these clothes to new ones because they are cheaper, stronger and last more than the new ones.
The mother of two, owner of Kenny’s Venture sells some of her clothes to female students of the institution who patronize her regularly.
She said she goes frequently to the campus, at least three times a week to display new clothes to her customers and as well send some images of her first-grade clothes to them on Whatsapp and Instagram whenever she cannot make it to the campus.
When asked about the business and considering the present economic situation in the country, she said, “Business has not been moving like before as most of these students struggle to eat, however, ladies will be ladies as they will not go naked on campuses to receive lectures. So, they do buy but, not as before when a student can buy up to three, four, or five clothes in the space of one to two weeks.
“Some of them have to keep up with fashion no matter what, and going for first-grade second-hand clothes are the best way to go with the present reality of the economy.
