Nigeria’s Head Coach, Finidi George, has named a 23-man squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, including standout players Ademola Lookman and African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen, along with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. The team will face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in crucial matches.
Also on George’s list are goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, defenders Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi from England, midfielders Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Alhassan Yusuf, as well as forwards Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface, and Terem Moffi.
Making his debut is Remo Stars’ robust defender Sadiq Ismael, while Turkey-based midfielder Fisayo Bashiru, Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella, and tall forward Paul Onuachu have also been called up.
Nigeria will take on South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, June 7th at 8 PM. Following this, they will travel to Abidjan to face Benin Republic at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Monday, June 10th at 4 PM local time (5 PM Nigeria time).
