Head Coach Jose Santos Peseiro has made some notable additions to the Super Eagles’ roster for the upcoming international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in Portugal.
The quartet of defenders Kenneth Omeruo and Bright Osayi-Samuel, midfielder Alex Iwobi, and forward Terem Moffi, who were conspicuously absent during the demolition of Sao Tome and Principe in last month’s 2023 AFCON qualifier in Uyo, have been reinstated.
In a notable first-time call-up, midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who currently plays for Hatayaspor FC in Turkey, joins the squad. Meanwhile, Peseiro has decided to maintain the goalkeeping trio of Francis Uzoho, Adebayo Adeleye, and Olorunleke Ojo. In addition to this, yet-to-be-capped defender Jordan Torunnarigha has also been included.
Key players, such as Wilfred Ndidi, who captained the team against Sao Tome and Principe, Raphael Onyedika, and forwards Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Kelechi Iheanacho, have received invitations.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia in the city of Portimão, Portugal on Friday, October 13, 2023, with the match commencing at 5 pm. They will then take on the Mambas of Mozambique in the same city three days later.
All players are expected to assemble in Faro, Portugal on Tuesday, October 10. These matches have been arranged as preparatory games for the Eagles before the commencement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. The team will start by hosting Lesotho’s Crocodiles in Uyo on November 17, followed by an away fixture against Zimbabwe four days later.
