With a strong commitment to inspire and uplift all facets of Nigerian football, the leadership under Ibrahim Musa Gusau, at the helm of the NFF, has made a solemn pledge to provide unwavering backing to the resumption of futsal and beach soccer activities in full swing.
During a cordial visit by a team representing Futsal Nigeria, a private organization collaborating with the NFF to endorse and promote the game of futsal (5-A-Side football) within Nigeria, Gusau fondly recalled Nigeria’s participation in a Futsal World Cup qualification match against Egypt a decade ago. He also acknowledged the country’s previous success in beach soccer at both continental and global levels before a deliberate pause several years ago.
“In the past, we made a conscious decision to withdraw from international beach soccer competitions until such a time when we’ve nurtured the sport locally, established a stable league, and cultivated clubs with a genuine passion for the game. I believe that we have now reached that point, and it’s time to provide support and encouragement for the revival of futsal and beach soccer,” Gusau stated.
He further remarked, “I am thrilled to note that FIFA is even considering organizing a Futsal World Cup for women. Our nation is blessed with exceptional football talent at every level, among both men and women. Even if we don’t participate in the inaugural edition, I am confident that we will soon develop a team that will qualify for subsequent editions of the competition.”
Abubakar Barde, Secretary of the NFF Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee, expressed the committee’s eagerness to reinvigorate futsal and beach soccer in the country.
Shamsudeen Tijani Yusuf, the Coordinator of Futsal Nigeria, emphasized the organization’s determination to foster interest in 5-A-Side football in Nigeria, a sport that spans leisure and competitive levels. “Futsal is an incredibly captivating game, and we firmly believe that our country can begin to make a significant impact on both the continental and global stages with the remarkable talents at our disposal.” He was accompanied by Nurudeen Nyako, Head of Communication and Strategy at Futsal Nigeria, and Miss Maryam Bukar, Head of Women in Futsal Nigeria.
As a token of appreciation, T-Shirts and brochures were presented to the NFF President and the General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi during the event.
Notable figures in attendance included NFF 1st Vice President, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu; NFF Executive Committee member, Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa; Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Babatunde Akinsanya; Director of Communications, Mr. Ademola Olajire, and Head of Marketing and Sponsorship, Mr. Alizor Chuks.
