On Sunday, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, will present the Nigeria Premier Football League trophy to the champions-elect, Rangers International FC of Enugu, at the New Zaria Road Stadium in Jos.
Gusau will lead a distinguished group of guests at the event, where Rangers, who secured their eighth Nigeria title by defeating Bendel Insurance 2-0 last weekend, will face the already relegated Gombe United FC in a match of contrasting emotions.
While the Savannah Scorpions prepare for life in the Nigeria National League, the Flying Antelopes, who were the 1977 Africa Cup Winnersโ Cup champions, are set to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League for the first time in many years. The champions have planned to return to Enugu with the trophy on a chartered flight after the game, which will also be attended by the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
Rangers currently sit on 67 points and aim to reach 70 points by winning their final match on Sunday, as stated by the clubโs CEO, Barr. Ameobi Ezeaku. In their previous encounter, Rangers triumphed 4-1 over Gombe United at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, with top scorer Godwin Obaje scoring twice and additional goals from Chidiebere Nwobodo and Kenechukwu Agu.
