APPRECIATION
The poem, My Teacher, My Teacher is written to show the importance of teachers to the human race. Not only to students but also, to all individuals who have passed through the four walls of schools and taught by teachers.
The poem also explains how teachers labour to make sure their students excel not only in their academic pursuits but also, in future.
My Teacher, My Teacher is a six-stanza poem with each stanza talking about the importance of teachers and the extra efforts some of these teachers are putting into their work to make sure that people are well nurtured and become important in society.
The poem has a theme of the beauty of dedication to work. This can be seen in all the stanzas of the poem where teachers are eulogized and presented as those who are nurturing the lives of individuals and society in general.
There is also the theme of rewards for dedication. That can be seen in the last stanza where the poet says,
“So let’s honour the teachers who’ve touched our lives,
Their impact is eternal, like stars in the skies.
For they are the pillars that hold our dreams high,
Forever grateful, as their legacy will never die.”
The poet reminds readers that they have to honour teachers who have touched their lives. Not only that, but they also have to be forever grateful to the teachers who can be regarded as the pillar that holds our dreams high.
The poet uses figures of speech to beautify his poem. One of the figures of speech he uses is a simile. A simile is a comparison of two dissimilar things using the words like or as. For example. In stanza two, the poet writes.
“With patient words, they sow seeds of insight,
Nurturing curious souls, like stars in the night.”
Also, in the last stanza, the poet uses another simile,
“So let’s honour the teachers who’ve touched our lives,
Their impact eternal, like stars in the skies.”
Apart from simile, the poet also uses metaphor in the second to the last stanza of the poem when he says:
“For they are the pillars that hold our dreams high.”
There is also the use of a rhyme scheme which the poet employs to makes it sonorous to hear.
