Head Coach Randy Waldrum and Captain Rasheedat Ajibade are optimistic about Nigeria’s Super Falcons’ chances as they gear up to face Cameroon in the African qualifying series for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in France.
Following a goalless draw in the first leg in Douala, where Nigeria was left ruing a disallowed goal by Jennifer Echegini, both teams traveled to Abuja on the same flight on Sunday.
“We played a good game in Douala and we are confident of our chances to secure the ticket in Abuja.
Despite having only a few days together with the girls, we will make the best of the opportunities on home ground on Monday,” said Waldrum.
Ajibade, who scored the crucial goal against Cameroon in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and also netted two goals against Ethiopia in the previous qualifying round, expressed the team’s determination to secure the Olympic ticket.
“Our objective is to qualify for the Olympics. Personally, I have never played at the Olympics, and that is the case with the majority of players in this team. We are focused on a positive result in the upcoming match,” Ajibade said.
