1554 – At the tender age of 16, young Lady Jane Grey is famous for having the shortest reign in England’s history… just nine days. She was executed on Tower Green by her cousin and rival to the throne.
1912 – The last Emperor of China abdicates at the age of 6. He was expelled from the Forbidden City after a military coup in 1924. He died on October 17, 1967, aged 61.
2009 – Researchers report that they have succeeded in decoding the genomes of 99 strains of the viruses that cause the common cold and have identified common vulnerabilities that could be exploited by drugs.
2019 – Mexican drug lord Joaquín aka “El Chapo,” was finally brought to justice. After more than 200 hours of testimony, the court ruled El Chapo guilty on all counts and sentenced him to life in prison.

1994 – Four men break into the National Gallery of Norway and steal Edvard Munch’s iconic painting The Scream.
1999 – President Bill Clinton is acquitted by the United States Senate in his impeachment trial.
2001 – NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft touches down in the “saddle” region of 433 Eros, becoming the first spacecraft to land on an asteroid.
