Liverpool’s star defender, Virgil van Dijk, didn’t hide his disappointment after Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Brighton ended in a 2-2 draw. Liverpool had been leading 2-1 but conceded an equalizer late in the match.
Van Dijk shared his thoughts on the result, saying, “Our aim coming here was to secure a victory. We had several opportunities to achieve that goal, but in the end, we settled for a draw after a hard-fought match. It was a fairly open game at times, with both teams evenly matched, but considering the quality of our squad, we definitely had the chances to clinch the win.”
Reflecting on Brighton’s first goal, where Mac Allister scored, Van Dijk acknowledged shared responsibility, stating, “It wasn’t just him [Mac Allister] at fault. I take some responsibility as well. It was a risky attempt to build up play from the back, and occasionally, such decisions can backfire, resulting in us being punished. Nevertheless, I’m proud of the way we responded as a team.”
Regarding Brighton’s equalizing goal, Van Dijk explained, “There was a miscommunication on the field. Someone heard a shout, but it turned out to be a misunderstanding, and no one wanted to make mistakes.
“Overall, I’m proud of my team’s performance, and we’ll regroup during the international break to prepare for the exciting matches that lie ahead.”
