Tottenham’s head coach, Ange Postecoglou, has expressed his concerns about the Video Assisted Referee (VAR) system, stating that it is not living up to its promise of improving the beauty of football.
These remarks come in the wake of recent incidents where VAR has been unable to rectify errors during matches in the English Premier League.
Postecoglou shared his perspective, saying, “In its current state, I would consider scrapping VAR. I believe that technology, as it stands, is not adequately suited for our sport. I have absolutely no objections to the use of goal-line technology; that’s a straightforward decision. However, when it comes to VAR, the more we rely on it, the more it seems to exacerbate problems.”
He continued, “What I’ve always admired about English football is the high-octane pace of the game. Why are we attempting to alter that? None of us enjoy the prolonged deliberation when decisions are being made, and it felt like they were rushing things last week. I don’t believe the current state of technology is suitable for our sport.”
