The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyer, has announced that the portal for state-owned tertiary institutions will open on June 25, 2024.
This move is in line with the agency’s commitment to democratize education.
Mr. Sawyer directed all state institutions to submit their students’ data immediately to facilitate a smooth and seamless application process.
He noted that over 90% of federal institutions of higher learning have already submitted their students’ data to NELFUND, urging the remaining two Federal universities and five Federal polytechnics to expedite the process to ensure all eligible students can access the financial aid.
Since launching the student loan application portal for Federal institutions last Friday, NELFUND has witnessed an extraordinary surge in applications, with over 60,000 submissions received so far.
According to Mr. Sawyer, “The overwhelming response serves as a testament to the critical need for financial assistance among our student population, and we remain committed to addressing this urgent demand.”
Additionally, NELFUND will launch a comprehensive skills acquisition program in six months, providing training in various vocational and technical fields.
This programme aims to prepare students to meet the demands of the modern job market, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation among young people.
