The Federal University of Dutse (FUD) branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused the Federal Government of deliberate neglect.
ASUU Chairman in Jigawa State, Comrade Salim Ahmed, made the accusation during an emergency press conference in Dutse.
According to Ahmed, the present administration has ignored ASUU leadership since its inception on May 29, 2023.
Despite efforts to meet with the Federal Government to address contending issues, including the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, all attempts have been unsuccessful.
The agreement covers core issues such as ASUU members’ welfare, university autonomy, funding for revitalization, and the proliferation of public universities.
Ahmed also highlighted the unauthorized dissolution of Governing Councils, refusal to pay outstanding salaries, and other grievances.
The union plans to mobilize its members and raise awareness for future action within the next three weeks.
Ahmed appealed to well-meaning individuals to prevail on the government to address these issues and meet with ASUU leadership to avoid an industrial crisis in the already frail university system.
