One needs to applaud the management of the University of Lagos for the introduction of dress code on campus which affects both female and male students. The dress code prohibits students from wearing indecent clothes like ragged jeans, mini-skirts, spaghetti tops, low-waist jeans, and tight strapless and revealing clothes among others on campus.
The management of the University of Lagos after observing that some students of the institution dress notoriously indecent for lectures, was left with no other choice than to introduce the dress code.
Today, the story is different. A visit to Unilag yesterday, one time famous for indecent dressing showed that new life has come to the campus. Old wine has been turned away and new wine has resurfaced. Most of the students seen appeared well-dressed, neat and cute.
No offensive dressing that can make other students or lecturers feel uncomfortable. It was a sight that gladdens the mind that one is indeed in a citadel of learning.
When one remembers that the University is a place to acquire knowledge, then, one will conclude that the step taken by the authority of the University of Lagos is a right step in the right direction, and it is highly commendable. Charity, they say, begins at home, not only at home, the Ivory Tower inclusive.
Though students appeared dissatisfied with the introduction of the dress code at the outset, today, any visitor to Unilag will heave a sigh of relief as the campus is different from the offensive and banality of indecent dressing.
Thumbs up!
