Renowned Nigerian broadcaster, Dr. Nasir Danladi Bako, has lauded the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for selecting former international player and ex-Enyimba FC strategist Finidi George as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
The 66-year-old Kogunan Sakwatto, known for creating popular TV programs such as Morning Ride, Mastersports, and Second Chance, and having served as Special Adviser to several Sports Ministers in the past, praised the NFF leadership for making a wise decision in appointing the two-time FIFA World Cup star. Bako emphasized George’s blend of class, character, and unwavering determination to succeed, noting that despite appearing reserved, George exudes qualities that inspire trust and confidence.
“Finidi George possesses a cultured and disciplined demeanor that instills confidence in his ability to handle significant projects. He understands the importance of authority and has always exhibited a team player mentality since his playing days. His calm and collected nature, even under pressure, sets him apart.”
“He doesn’t carry a sense of entitlement; he appreciates the opportunity and has the potential to succeed. I urge the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, the NFF, and all Nigerians to rally behind him and propel the Super Eagles to greater heights.”
Bako, who holds a doctorate in development communication from Ahmadu Bello University and served as Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission from 1999 to 2002, stressed the need for collective support to secure victories in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic on June 7 and June 11 respectively.
“No doubt, the NFF got this one appointment right. Very much on point. Now, they should endeavour to give George all the support he needs to succeed in his task of qualifying Nigeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
