Senator John Owan Enoh, the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for opting for a local Head Coach for the Super Eagles, despite numerous foreign contenders. Speaking at the introduction of the Eagles’ new Head Coach, Finidi George, at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Enoh urged the NFF to provide unwavering support to George and called upon all Nigerians to rally behind the new coach.
He reminisced about watching George play for Calabar Rovers during his university days and expressed excitement about his appointment.
President of the NFF, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, expressed satisfaction with the Federation’s decision, highlighting their commitment to supporting George and his team to elevate Nigerian football to new heights. Gusau emphasized the importance of indigenous talent in coaching and expressed confidence in George’s ability to lead the Super Eagles to success.
George, displaying confidence, outlined his plans to focus on players who regularly feature for their clubs, both domestically and internationally, and pledged to make the team even more competitive in the upcoming years. He set his sights on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and reiterated his commitment to achieving the objectives outlined in his contract.
Regarding his relationship with the players, George emphasized professionalism and mutual respect, stressing the need to emulate European standards. He called for unity and support from all stakeholders to achieve the team’s goals.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures including NFF officials, football stakeholders, and former Nigerian internationals, signaling widespread support for George’s appointment.
