The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has expressed optimism that the upcoming 11th All-Africa University Games (FASU), which LASU will co-host with the University of Lagos (UNILAG), will be the most successful edition yet.
Olatunji-Bello made this assertion during a Pre-FASU Games seminar held at LASU in preparation for the event scheduled to take place from September 20 to September 29. The theme of the seminar was “Lagos 2014, Unite, Compete, Excel.”
Highlighting the importance of collaboration between the two universities, she emphasized that it would be instrumental in achieving this goal and in promoting the values of sportsmanship and unity.
“As we collaborate to develop and refine our ideas for this prestigious competition, I urge us to remain united, avoiding unnecessary competition or rivalry. Let us prioritize the interests of our state, which we are hosting, and the integrity of the competition,” Olatunji-Bello remarked.
“This is the second time the competition is being held in Nigeria. Let us work together as a united force to ensure that it becomes the best FASU Games ever. If, in the process, we emerge victorious, that would be the cherry on top.”
She expressed confidence in the ability of the Nigerian teams to perform well, saying, “There is no reason why our teams cannot take the first and second positions. We are hosting to make history, we are hosting to win.”
