The Nigerian Ambassador to Portugal, His Excellency Alex E. Kefas, played host to the Nigerian contingent participating in international friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in Portugal. During this gathering, Ambassador Kefas expressed his delight at the Super Eagles’ victory over Mozambique in their second game, emphasizing the need to maintain this winning spirit in forthcoming matches and championships.
Addressing the delegation, including players, officials, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Executive Committee member Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, and NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, Ambassador Kefas commended Alhaji Gusau’s leadership qualities. He urged Gusau to further consolidate his efforts to ensure the Super Eagles continue to secure victories.
Ambassador Kefas stated, “We aspire to see a Super Eagles team that will once again bring joy to all Nigerians, both at home and abroad. Nigerians hold their football and national teams in high regard, and I encourage you to aim for major trophies that will make us all proud. Alhaji Gusau’s leadership abilities are unquestionable. I am confident that he possesses the capabilities required to guide the Eagles toward victory, starting with the Africa Cup and their quest for a FIFA World Cup spot.”
Also in attendance at the reception were Ambassador Kefas’ spouse, several Super Eagles players, technical and support staff, as well as embassy personnel.
With just a few weeks remaining before the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifications commence, the Super Eagles marked a significant milestone by securing their first friendly match victory in 55 months. They defeated Mozambique 3-2 in Portimao, reinforcing their commitment to their “Let’s Do It Again” slogan in preparation for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals.
In a prior match on Friday, Saudi Arabia’s Green Falcons managed to secure a last-minute equalizer, resulting in a 2-2 draw with the Super Eagles at the same venue.
