Manchester United suffered a setback in their Champions League campaign, succumbing to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich. This loss marked their fourth consecutive defeat across various competitions, with previous defeats against Tottenham, Arsenal, and Brighton.
Following the match in Munich, Bruno Fernandes refrained from making excuses despite the growing list of injured players within the squad. He emphasized the team’s responsibility to perform on the pitch, stating, “We don’t need to dwell on the injuries; we possess sufficient talent within our squad to deliver results. While we naturally wish for the swift return of our injured players, their absence cannot serve as a justification for our inability to secure victories.”
Expressing the difficulty of the match against Bayern, Fernandes acknowledged the formidable nature of their opponents. He commented, “We were fully aware of the formidable challenge posed by Bayern. When you afford them the time and space, they exploit it to their advantage. We found ourselves trailing 1-0 and 2-0 early in the game. However, we displayed resilience in the second half, narrowing the deficit to 2-1 before conceding an early goal. Despite the setbacks, we fought back once more, closing the gap to 3-2, only to concede again.”
Fernandes concluded by noting the positive aspects of their performance, suggesting that with more patience and composure on the ball, they could have troubled Bayern further. He remarked, “In retrospect, there were several commendable aspects to our game. However, these positives were insufficient to secure the victory we desired.”
