Alhaji Babagana Kalli, the Chairman of the NFF Security Committee, announced on Saturday that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure safety and security during the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match. The match is set to take place on Sunday and will feature Nigeria’s Super Eagles facing off against Sao Tome and Principe’s Falcons and True Parrots.
Kalli stated, “We have conducted a series of meetings with representatives from various security agencies, and we are in full alignment with our security preparations. As I address you, we are currently in another meeting with representatives from the Federal Road Safety Corps, DSS, Police, and the Army.”
He emphasized the significance of safety and security in sporting events, adding, “There are no minor matches in football anymore, and we are well aware of the critical role safety and security play in organizing any sporting event. We will continue to hold meetings on Saturday evening and Sunday morning to ensure that all arrangements are flawless.”

The prestigious 79th NFF Annual General Assembly will be graced by His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, who is expected to attend both the match and the opening ceremony. Also in attendance will be Sports Development Minister John Owan Enoh, Permanent Secretary Ismailia Abubakar, Nigeria’s FIFA Council Member and CAF Executive and Emergency Committees Member Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports Monday Uko.
The visiting Falcons and True Parrots conducted their initial training session in Nigeria on Friday and are scheduled to hold their official training session on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium. Meanwhile, the group leaders, Nigeria, will conduct their training at 6 p.m. at the same venue.
The Super Eagles only need a victory to secure the top spot in their group, as they have already qualified for the finals in Cote d’Ivoire next year, following their 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone in Monrovia on June 18th.
