The Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles have shifted their focus to the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers. The team left Marrakech after playing friendly matches against Ghana and Mali, with most players heading back to their clubs in Europe.
The team officials, including interim Head Coach Finidi George, will depart from Casablanca to Lagos on Wednesday night.
Despite a disappointing loss to Mali, where they failed to convert their chances, defender and captain Kenneth Omeruo expressed the team’s determination to perform well in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
Omeruo emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities, especially with many players eyeing their first World Cup appearance.
Following their victory against Ghana, Nigeria’s confidence was dented by goals from El Bilal Toure and Kamouri Doumbia in the match against Mali. Despite dominating possession, the Eagles struggled to create scoring opportunities.
Looking ahead, Nigeria is set to face South Africa in Uyo and Benin Republic away in the upcoming international window in June, as they aim to secure their spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
