People meet people on social media every day and every time. Most times without any plans to meet in real life. Now the question is, does it make any difference, meeting online and meeting in real life? If it does make a difference, what difference does it make?
LinkedIn is one of the social media platforms where people meet. It’s the world’s largest professional network on the internet. People meet for several reasons on LinkedIn, many for professional and career networking, others for business, and some others for social networking.
It would not have been too much of a big deal if an event is organized on LinkedIn and people attend from several parts of the world. The big deal is that some set of people were thoughtful enough to bring online people to meet in real life.
This event is set to be far beyond the regular networking, this is one of its kind. A lifetime opportunity, where each person gets to meet someone they’ve met online and form a more tangible relationship.
The LinkedIn Local Ife, as I aforementioned, will be one of a kind event. And what distinction will it make? The difference is simply that, anyone can form beyond just a social media network, they can form a tangible network, where they can put a face to the person they already met online.
The organizers of this event are students of the great Obafemi Awolowo University. They must have had a series of discussions and preparations for the upcoming event. It’s kudos to them, to have thought about the amazing idea, and I can say that, Great Ife students are breaking new ground.
It is actually a great idea to have online people meet physically.
Dear Esther,
Many thanks for your comment.
It’s really a great idea to bring digital life to the physical once a while.
Cheers
