Six students of Government Secondary School, Fadan Chawai, Kaduna State, lost their lives in a tragic incident when they drowned in the Mbang River in Ribang (Mbang) village, Kauru Local Government Area.
The students, aged between 15 and 19, had just finished writing their Junior Secondary School exams and were returning home when the incident occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, the victims included Manasseh Monday (16), Musah John (16), Pius David (15), Monday Ayuba (16), David Danlami (19), and Yahuza Audu (16).
While the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to confirm the incident, locals have recovered three of the bodies.
Pastor Simon Ishaku, Public Relations Officer of Ribang Development Association, appealed to the Federal Government, Governor Uba Sanni of Kaduna State, and Senator Sunday Katung to provide access roads, schools, hospitals, and bridges to alleviate the community’s suffering.
The Mbang River has been described as a death trap for the community, highlighting the need for urgent intervention.”
