The female handball Team of Federal University Oye Ekiti has won the bronze medal in the recently concluded Handball Competition organized by the South-west Handball Organization, which took place at the University of Ibadan.
According to Wole Balogun, Special Assistant, Media to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fashina, the outing was the first appearance of the team in the competition.
Fuoye Volleyball Team had in 2023, won a gold medal at the maiden edition of the Ekiti State Volleyball Championship, as the students of the University had also won trophies in several national competitions.
The Chairperson of the University Sports Committee, who also doubles as Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Professor Chika Asogwa, thrilled by the success of the team, heaped encomium on the girls.
Professor Asogwa said, “The South-west Handball Association organized a yearly Handball Competition for all Universities in the South-west, and this is the second edition which was held from 23rd to 26th of April 2024 at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.
“The FUOYE female Handball team went to the competition. This is the first outing of the FUOYE Handball team, and they won the bronze medal of the competition. While we applaud the young ladies’ triumphant outing, we appreciate our amiable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fashina for his support for the sports unit of our great University,” added Professor Asogwa.
